Targeted Infusion Grant: Revamping Engineering Technology Programs to
Include an Interdisciplinary Curriculum in Distributed Energy and Environmental Studies

The overall goal of this project is to produce and implement an effective academic curriculum which will produce graduates certified and certifiable in Distributed/Alternative Energy Technology, and Environmental Engineering Technology as well as graduates of social and natural sciences with a minor or certificate in energy studies and/or environmental studies.  The proposed targeted infusion project is therefore narrowly focused on the design, testing and implementation of a myriad of interdisciplinary courses within the engineering technology curriculum. These courses will be packaged into specific programs – minors, certificates and areas of major concentrations to serve the needs of social science and STEM students.  The expected outcome of the project in the long run is a cadre of minority engineering technologists, scientists and social scientist with the competencies to participate in the alternative energy industry and the environmental services industry as technologists, decision makers, community/civic activists, and better custodians of the environment.   Project impact on the society and the national economy in the long run will include a diversified workforce for the alternative energy industry, and the environmental services industry as well as an awareness of the disenfranchised and impoverished communities on the efficient use of energy and environmental responsibility.
