The main goal of the HBCU Undergraduate Program (HBCU-UP) at SSU is to significantly increase the number of ethnic
minority students that graduate in STEM and continue to graduate school. Pursuant to this goal, activities are planned
with the following objectives:

·          To provide undergraduate students with high quality STEM education;
·          To encourage and support them through graduation;
·          To encourage and assist a number of them to enter graduate schools;
·         To retain the maximum possible number of STEM students through graduation;
·          To produce highly competent and competitive scientists, mathematicians, engineers and technologists for
           the workforce;
·          To increase the number of students pursuing STEM education at SSU;
·          To prepare entering freshmen for the challenges of STEM education;
·          To prepare MAGEC-STEM students for the challenges of graduate study;
·         To put in place first class STEM curricula and instructional delivery mechanisms for the benefit of the
            population we serve;
·          To produce and retain a highly competent STEM faculty, with technical and professional currency; and
·          To create an awareness and interest in STEM education in our service area.
